School of Sweet Georgia

I have been a “maker” my whole life. Now that I am retired I finally have time to focus on what I love…knitting, spinning, and weaving.

In the fall of 2018 I bought all the inventory from The Yarn Shop in Glen Arbor, MI, my cousin’s business that closed when she decided it was time to retire at age 86. Currently the yarn from this store is for sale at Torri’s Tangles to Treasures in Fergus Falls. http://www.tanglestotreasures.com/

I had an Etsy shop for a few years. I sold some things but it was more of a hassle than it was worth. I would rather focus on doing and learning than selling.

Recently I found a wonderful membership based online school and community, the School of Sweet Georgia. They have classes for “multicraftual makers” like me, people who dapple in multiple areas of fiber art including knitting, spinning, weaving, dyeing, etc. I have taken several classes so far that have included written transcripts you can download, plus a series of videos with detailed information. I highly recommend it. For more info click here.

My mom and her aunt at The Yarn Shop in Glen Arbor, Michigan, in 1959.

I have been making things ever since I was a child. I learned to sew from my mom, and have also done knitting, crocheting, macrame, embroidery, needlepoint, cross stitch, spinning, and felting. Over the last 15 years I have focused my creative energies on knitting, and spinning wool and other fibers into yarn, and more recently weaving on a rigid heddle loom and a 4 harness floor loom.
